100% Cinsault from vines planted 140 years ago, on their own roots, in the deep sands of Lodi. Made as white wine, with extremely gentle pressing and very restrictive yields. Elegant, fresh, high in acid—but pungent. In some ways, a typical rosé; but in others, somewhat strange and surprising. The color of this wine changes suddenly and unpredictably: earlier in the Spring, it was a deep salmon flesh; now it is a pale blanc de noir.
A very beautiful, extraordinarily light red wine; highly fragrant, with very good acidity and just the slightest grip. Made from own-rooted, 100 year old Zinfandel in north-eastern Lodi. Our first attempt at this wine, based on the Cerasuolo made by Emidio Pepe in Abruzzo from Montepulciano. Serve cold—it is, in essence, a white wine. This wine will surely develop well for several years.
Partially skin-fermented old-vine Pinot Grigio from Tegan Passalacqua's
vineyard of alluvial granite in the center of Lodi. Somehow absolutely
captivating in the nose and beautiful to taste, with good acidity and
structure. Rather coppery in color, with perceptible tannin on the
finish. Nothing like most Pinot Grigio.
The wine is clearly delightful now and captures parties, but will
develop well for at least a couple of years.
This is our best vintage of this wine ever. It is at its most powerful and dense without being heavy. The wine is nearly smoky, but still with good fruit and excellent minerality and acidity. Like the other whites, good to go now but will develop for at least 5 years, maybe more!
100% Syrah, fermented whole cluster in wooden puncheons with slight foot
treading and then daily light punchdowns for about 3 weeks; aged in
neutral wood for 23 months.
This is our wonderful reserve wine made from the tiny, rocky swelling in
the Hudson Widowmaker block. The winemaking is identical to
Androkteinos, but the resulting wine is remarkably different. Intense
and light in the mouth at the same time. This wine is ready to go, but
you could also sit on on it for a decade …
A superb vintage of this wine, our best since 2005. 100% Petite Sirah, fermented on the stems in upright puncheons; aged for 2 and half years in neutral oak. Dense, sappy, rich with very good acidity and fine tannic structure. The wine is less like Amarone than the last few vintages, more like powerful Cabernet. All of the power of the wine is balanced by lightness and grace. there is no heaviness; just soaring. Will develop for 20 years.
