june 2010 botling
We are moving our operation under the roof of our friends and colleagues at Wooden Valley Winery for our Spring bottling. They are the hosts of the whole Naucratis program; somehow their equipment—they have large tanks, but they also have an amazing post-war french horizontal screw press with cedar slats—is perfecly suited to the fashioning of this wine.
This is what we will bottle on June 9 and release immediately aftewards:
From the 200 survivors of a 50 year-old vineyard in Rutherford. 19 cases of Sauvignon Blanc.
Whole-cluster pressed Malvasia Nera; own-rooted vines planted in the 1860s in Lodi. Fragrant white wine from red grapes.
Verdelho, from the cool Sacramento River Delta. The wine is clean, direct, intense. As always, it is reminiscent of ripe, but not super-powerful, Grüner.
(bottled by hand in March 2010)
An extraordinary Chardonnay from the 1-acre vineyard planted in 1982. Ripe, exteme, the opposite of creamy.
