early harvest 2009

the whole crew, with friends, advisors, guests, receiving Malvasia Nera and introducing it to the press—to make rosé

The crew is superb. Numerous, joyful, careful, untiring and unstoppable. We watch over each other as we make better wine than the project has ever made before.

I am still too much in the midst of things to give you a proper update. But I can say this. We have dry wines already, finished fermentations. We made rosé from the MN at left, but also a dry, skin-fermented, partial whole-cluster red. It will form the base wine for our Lambrusco project and will receive a secondary fermentation prior to bottling in the spring- to make it properly frizzante.

We have also already made a new MSL; this time with about 10% whole clusters fermented in the juice. And Naucratis, Gemella, Riquewihr, LSB, Prince, Glos, and Sylphs are all already in and in the midst of fermentation. We are dizzy, but happy. A very good year.
